PROJECT overview
“A Shared Table” by Lisa Speed is inspired by Javanese cosmology and Yogyakarta’s philosophical axis—where humans mediate between Mount Merapi (fire) and the South Sea (water)—A Shared Table serves as a gathering space for dialogue and ecological care.
The work utilizes 30-year-old Trembesi wood as a symbol of river ecosystem resilience, with its 7 cm thickness representing the human realm connecting Merapi’s six rivers. Combined with volcanic stones collected from these six rivers, the installation invites visitors to reflect on the human role in sustaining the fragile relationship between landscape, memory, and climate.
